RAICES is a BIA-recognized, 501(c)(3) nonprofit that has provided immigration legal services and education to immigrants, including Lawful Permanent Residents for more than 25 years. Since 1991, RAICES has employed licensed attorneys and is currently funded for 21 full-time staff attorneys, 5 Fully BIA accredited and 1 BIA partially-accredited representatives and 15 legal assistants dedicated exclusively to the provision of immigration representation and education to underserved immigrant children, families and refugees in Central and South Texas.
About the Job
The Children's Program Legal Assistant carries out day-to-day operations at an assigned shelter for unaccompanied immigrant children in San Antonio, Texas. The Legal Assistant directly reports to a designated Facility Attorney, who supervises the program operations at the assigned Facility. The program consists of four primary components: (1) group Know Your Rights presentations, (2) individual screening interviews, (3) referral of cases to pro bono attorneys and pro bono mentoring, and (4) direct representation of UAC in ORR custody and released from shelter.
